Last week the world was in shock twice. First the terrible bombings in Brussels and then there was the news about Johan Cruijff.
Johan Cruijff, the person I grew up with. I always say I was born on the football field. With a father and brother playing at the local football club. And when not at the local football club, there was Ajax. The glory days in the 70’s. Europe Cup, the Dutch National team. The era of Cruijff, Neeskens and Michels.
This week I was fully thrown back to my early family time. The love of football, with Cruijff total football was introduced. He changed the game forever. But Cruijff was more. He was authentic, true to himself. Put family and friends first. The Cruijff Foundation is such an inspiration to many. He helped thousands of children through PLAY because he knew that PLAY includes children in society and helps by building communities.
While Cruijff was a teacher to many, and not only in football, his teacher was life itself. His curiosity made that he was interested in anyone and everything. And with his curiosity he could inspire many people and organisations by passing on his learnings.
Cruijff not only introduced total football, he also showed us total living. Let us not forget this, let’s embrace total living by staying curious.
